Saturday, October 05, 2002 I started Early - Took my Dog Emily Dickinson I started Early - Took my Dog - And visited the Sea - The Mermaids in the Basement Came out to look at me - And Frigates - in the Upper Floor Extended Hempen Hands - Presuming Me to be a Mouse - Aground - upon the Sands - But no Man moved Me - till the Tide Went past my simple Shoe - And past my Apron - and my Belt And past my Bodice - too - And made as He would eat me up - As wholly as a Dew Upon a Dandelion's Sleeve - And then - I started - too - And He - He followed - close behind - I felt His Silver Heel Upon my Ankle - Then my Shoes Would overflow with Pearl - Until We met the Solid Town - No One He seemed to know - And bowing - with a Mighty look - At me - The Sea withdrew - I have a quest for you all [excluding Caitie cause I already told her about all this...]. I recently came across the above poem, and it seemed like nothing important to me at first; just some poem about some lady at some beach with some dog... But I took a really close look and found in it a hidden inner meaning. My quest for you out there in internet world is to look deeply and abstractly into this poem and see if you can see what I see. If you're bored and have nothing better to do, think about it and leave an interpretation in the comments. You don't have to try to see it through my eyes, but I'm curious to see what you think. [Keep in mind I don't have a dog, I'm not religious, and I don't long for the sea...so if that destroys your hyphotheses, keep thinking...] posted by Shannon | 11:30 AM |
