So last night on the Sundance Channel, I watched Requiem for a Dream... Now, if you haven't seen this absolutely amazing work of art, you definately should see it asap. Every bit of that movie is pretty damn near perfect. But since I haven't been in a review mood lately, I'll leave it at that... I love the Sundance Channel... To bad I'm not home enough to enjoy it... The last time I was home I saw a really good Japanese film called The Postman Blues. It was about a mailman who gets mixed up in the goings on of an aging hitman, an old classmate in a quest to become a Tsotsi, and a strange, terminally-ill beauty. The movie mixes strange humor [think: The Royal Tennenbaums], some slightly slap-stick, laugh-out-loud, situation humor, with just enough drama to keep it a mainly serious film. Definitely see it if you don't mind sub-titles [or if you speak Japanese...]
Another movie I was watching was a French movie called Happenstance. [Again, for those who don't mind sub-titles...or those who speak French...] It seemed pretty good, but I only caught the end of it, so I'm not really sure what it's about... I was quite amused when one of the characters was sobbing and screaming: "Merde! Merde! Merde!" The subtitles seemed to find it necessary only to translate this to "Shit." It was mainly about how a handful of strangers lives intertwine throughout a course of time leading to one specific meeting...but I'm not sure which version I saw... [+] or [+]
