![]() Thursday, September 26, 2002 The other day, I went on a short run with part of my soccer team for some endurance training. I decided to experiment with a different choice for music to take along in my CD-player. Instead of the usual something brisk and peppy, I had a strange inclination to try the left side of The Fragile... And it worked surprisingly well. But...not in the usual way of keeping my feet moving... When I started to run, I was on the brink of tears because my ankles have been insanely sore. This really pissed me off because I was determined to enjoy myself. And just as I'm realizing all of this, and the start-of-run cramps kick in, I hear: "broken bruised forgotten sore too fucked up to care anymore..." I laughed at the parallel, and kept going... Then the calm of The Day The World Went Away relieved the tension and relaxed me [not a surprise]... Followed by The Frail and the crescendo into The Wretched, getting my energy flowing again... And as I was turning the final corner to begin the final stretch, my daze gives way to: "none of them can stop us now we will make it through somehow..." Quite the motivational chorus... And the song comes to an end right as I'm finishing: "even after everything you're the queen and i'm the king nothing else means anything..." {this is where I collapse onto the bench} "...she shines in a world full of ugliness she matters when everything is meaningless..." I really pushed myself to go as hard as I could, and I never slowed or stopped once through the whole run, normally I stop for a cramp or two, but, for the first time, I didn't... I even sprinted at the end... And I was happy. posted by Shannon | 7:12 PM |
